A quarter century has passed since Nick and Diane Marson became living proof that love can blossom even in the darkest of times and in the unlikeliest of settings after they met in Gander while stranded after 9/11, which partially inspired the “Come From Away” musical.

💋🐟 What is “Kiss the Fish”🐟 💋

Kiss the Fish is a playful initiation ceremony used to welcome people who aren’t from Newfoundland—often tourists or visitors—as “honorary Newfoundlanders.” It’s called a Screech-In

Traditionally, the visitor:

1. Drinks a shot of Screech, a Newfoundland-associated rum.
2. Answers the ceremonial question “Is ye a Screecher?”
3. Recites the traditional response.
4. Kisses a codfish.
5. Is declared an honorary Newfoundlander

Why is it important in Come From Away?

This is more than just a funny bit about kissing a fish. It means you become part of their community! That’s what Come From Away is all about … COMMUNITY
