THE ARDMORE JOURNAL RETURNS AFTER 33 YEARS
A very special piece of Ardmore's heritage is about to begin a new chapter.
After an absence of 33 years, the 11th edition of the Ardmore Journal will be formally launched in Halla DeuglΓ‘n, Ardmore, at 7.30pm on Thursday, 6th August.
The first Ardmore Journal appeared in 1984, beginning a remarkable run of ten editions which continued until 1993. Across those years, the Journal gathered and preserved the history of Ardmore in its broadest and most human sense, its people and places, folklore and traditions, archaeology and religious heritage, the sea and shipwrecks, local organisations and perhaps most importantly, the memories of people who knew an older Ardmore.
Looking back through that work today is a reminder of the value of the original Ardmore Journal. It preserved voices, recollections and details of village life which might otherwise have quietly disappeared with the passing of generations.
And so, 33 years after the tenth edition appeared in 1993, the publication of the Ardmore Journal No. 11 feels like much more than a revival - it is a continuation of that tradition of Ardmore curiosity, storytelling and care for our heritage.
The Mayor of Waterford, Cllr Liam Brazil, will perform the formal launch of the new Ardmore Journal, followed by a talk by our own local and fascinating archaeologist John Tierney.
Admission is free and everyone is very welcome.
Copies of the new Ardmore Journal will be available to purchase on the night and contributing authors will also be there to sign copies.
