When those particles collide with a bacterial cell, they punch through its outer shell. Without that shell, the cell falls apart. What is wild is the staying power. In that same test, the air remained mostly cleared for a full 24 hours after the smoke settled. One hour of burning. One full day of aftermath. That is not a coincidence — it is the plant doing something it has been doing long before humans figured out it smelled good. Some of the same oils found in sage smoke also appear in pine, rosemary, and thyme. Plants did not develop these chemicals for human benefit.
