The Well Collaborative

My greatest lessons generally come at a time of messing up.
Struggle, mistakes, failure.
Or my ego gets in the way.
I’m far from perfect but somehow I still want to be.
Other women hold me when I fall, and that’s the kind of woman I want to be.
The one that shows me, in spite of my humanity, I have value, there is hope, I can keep going.
There is so much more ahead!
Surround yourself with women like that and every day will be a blessing.

You are amazing and sometimes your own thoughts get in the way of expressing that. Everyone’s does! But with the right support, reminders, and a sprinkle of grace, you can rise above.
Sometimes our thoughts lie to us, but our bodies generally don’t.
At The Well, we take time to listen in to what our heart, gut, and soul are telling us. At times we have to override the thoughts, but we try to not do the same to our bodies.
We believe you have everything you need to thrive already inside you, and we are here to help breathe a little more life into you!

I refuse to abandon myself in order to lead, exist, thrive, you name it. I REFUSE.

And that, my friends, might be the simplest reason for why The Well exists.

Because I don’t want you to do that either.

You don’t need to ignore your body to be ‘considered’ professional.

Or override your capacity to achieve your dreams.

Don’t even get me started on staying quiet because you think being agreeable will lead to success. It will only lead to a breakdown of your body.

What we all need is support, so we can still be our ourselves while we work.

I’m not interested in teaching women how to succeed within patriarchal expectations. I’m interested in finding our own way, a new path forward.

I’m excited to see what happens when we change our own expectations. Not others, but our internal ones for ourselves.

What if leadership could be relational AND effective? Human AND ambitious! Both collaborative AND profitable. Whoop whoop!

What if we stopped thinking about power as something we have over one another and started practicing power with one another?

That’s the experiment we’re beginning inside The Well.

We’re calling it:

Making the Matriarchy.

‘Sometimes you walk into a room not knowing who you’ll meet and walk away with people who become part of your life.

The Well has given me new connections, like meeting Tammy, reconnections like finding my way back to Kimberly, and then being placed in a small group of women who started as strangers in a coffee shop and still make time to gather today. Thank you to Tina, Hilary, Jess, Michele, and Kailee for always making time for one another!

That’s the magic of spaces like The Well. It’s not just networking. It’s belonging, connection, feminine leadership and finding your people. ❤️

Sometimes another woman’s win can feel like a failure to you.

Especially if it’s something you really wanted.

I’ve known that feeling myself, especially in the oversaturated world of photography.

I always dreamed of being Annie Leibovitz. Shooting Vogue covers. Creating beautiful, authentic editorial work. Travelling. Making art on a really big stage.

But I chose to have a family and build a life in Saskatchewan instead.

And when I look at my values, which are freedom and relationships. That choice makes so much sense.

I had my kids young. I married my high school sweetheart. I built a business in my own community. And in a lot of ways, I chose a smaller life.

But smaller doesn’t mean less full.

My life has been incredibly full.

I’ve experienced so much growth, creativity, success and opportunity right here in my little corner of the world. And I’ve been deeply fulfilled by the choices I’ve made because, for the most part, they’ve aligned with what I actually value.

So if another woman’s win ever makes you question yourself, or wonder if maybe you’re not achieving enough, dreaming big enough, doing enough, take stock.

Come back to your values.

Ask yourself what you actually want your life to feel like.

And then make choices that move you toward that.

Because no one else can define a successful life for you.

And no one else will build it for you.

Why does this feel like the end of an era?
I guess in a few at it is.
We’ve been gathering in person for over 8 years in Saskatoon and more recently in Toronto.
We’ve held space for one another.
We’ve cried for each other.
We’ve howled, group hugged, and laughed.
Some of these things will continue with our Directory calls, but in a way I am retiring as I press pause on our monthly circles.
I know this is right,
And I’ve already heard talk from Well Women that a circle may continue.
But for me, it’s a new chapter.
