Sometimes you don’t need a whole new look. You just need to let the familiar have a lil fun.

We usually reach for the crochet pin when it’s time for her maintenance but this appointment? The crochet pin got the day off.

Instead, we went with a retwist, added some boho curls and gave her locs a little softness, a little movement and just enough of a switch-up to make the familiar feel brand new.

And apparently all it needed was ONE opportunity because she absolutely loved it.

Longterm loc wear comes with… well, wear.

And that doesn’t automatically mean something has gone wrong.

Over the years, locs experience repeated washing, styling, maintenance, friction and everyday manipulation. Add increasing length and weight to the mix and areas that are already compromised can become more susceptible to thinning and breakage.

In his case, it was time for a clean up.

We went in with crochet root maintenance and also reattached a few locs at the crown that needed some extra attention.

The after is satisfying, yes but the real win is making sure the foundation gets the attention it needs so those years of growth can keep going.

Mature locs deserve maintenance with the long game in mind.
