Kiden is one of the most treasured medicinal plant in the Marshall Islands. Following childbirth, mothers bathe in water in which kiden leaves have been boiled — done to cleanse the woman internally and to contribute to healthy skin.
In the past, this continues twice a day for two months.
Beyond postpartum use, leaves of the plant are used to make medicinal tea, in steam baths, to stop bleeding, and to cover bruises.
