Some moments feel bigger than the moment itself.
Walking into the Auburn Avenue Research Library to hear Felicia Leatherwood share from Root Therapy felt like more than a book reading.
It felt like a reminder.
A reminder of the woman I was 14 years ago.
A reminder of the things I carried that nobody could see.
A reminder that sometimes God allows us to reconnect with people from an old chapter so we can finally see the chapter—and ourselves—with new eyes.
There are things I couldn’t recognize then that I can recognize now.
Growth.
Healing.
Peace.
Wisdom.
And the grace to say, “Look how far God has brought me.”
We spend so much time asking God for what’s next that we don’t always pause long enough to thank Him for what we’ve already become.

14 years later.
I reconnected with the woman in this photograph, and I showed her this picture from 2012.
She looked at it, smiled with so much warmth, and said, “I just saw this picture… and yes, I remember you.”
Then she said something that stayed with me:
“You are happy now.”
Little did she know—and honestly, little did I fully understand at the time—how emotionally unhappy I was in that season of my life.
I was smiling in this picture. I was working. I was showing up. I was moving forward.
But inside, I was carrying things I didn’t have the words for yet.
And isn’t it something how God will bring people, places, and moments full circle?
Sometimes we are so focused on where we’re going that we forget to stop and look at where we’ve been.
Slow down.
Look at the woman you were.
Look at the things you survived.
Look at the prayers you prayed.
Look at the things you no longer tolerate.
Look at the peace you didn’t have then but have now.
Look at how much you’ve grown.
Maybe the evidence of your growth isn’t always in what you’ve accomplished.
Sometimes it’s in who you’ve become.
So, sis… where do you need to slow down long enough to recognize just how far you’ve come?

Eight. ♾️
Eight years ago, I started one of my dear friend’s loc journey. Today, as she sat with me while she began my third loc journey, we reflected on how much life has changed since then.
There’s something about this season that feels different. The number 8 represents new beginnings, and while I don’t fully understand what God is unfolding yet, I know this journey isn’t just about my hair. It’s about growth, surrender, healing, and becoming.
This is my third time choosing locs, but this time… it feels like I’m choosing myself in a deeper way.
I’m trusting the process, embracing every stage, and allowing this journey to reveal what it’s meant to teach me.
