“Should you wait until you’re done having children?”
The short answer is yes.
A mommy makeover is designed to restore and tighten the body after pregnancy — and a subsequent pregnancy will stretch and stress those same tissues again, affecting the final results. Timing matters.
That said, an unplanned pregnancy after a mommy makeover is not a safety concern. It simply means some of the results may change, and revision may be something to consider down the line.
The ideal candidate is someone who is confident their family is complete and is ready to invest in lasting results.

Four years post-op — and this is what a well-placed tummy tuck scar looks like.
This patient underwent abdominoplasty in February 2022. Her incision sits precisely along the underwear line, remaining discreet even in a bikini. She also happens to be the first patient on whom Dr. Xu performed her signature belly button technique — a refinement that results in a natural, undetectable appearance that has since become a hallmark of her approach.

A tummy tuck is a procedure that focuses solely on the abdomen, while a mommy makeover is a customized set of procedures that addresses all areas affected by pregnancy and childbearing — typically the breasts and abdomen, where women often see loss of volume, loose skin, and stretched abdominal wall muscles.
This distinction matters.
A mommy makeover involves a more comprehensive approach, during which Dr. Xu will evaluate and treat every area affected by pregnancy in a single surgery. This may include a breast augmentation, breast lift, breast reduction, or a combination of these — with or without a tummy tuck. The right combination depends entirely on your anatomy and goals.

Fresh flowers, familiar faces — welcome to Ethos. 🤍
Every detail of our office is a deliberate choice. From the color palette to the shapes, the design is intentional — created to feel like a calm and considered environment for women who come to us during deeply personal moments.
That extends to our flowers. Dr. Xu works directly with our florists — sharing inspiration and guiding the arrangements herself — to ensure the soft pinks, peaches, and neutrals that greet you at the door set the right tone from the moment you walk in.
This week’s beautiful summer arrangement, complete with Dr. Xu’s favorite peonies, was gifted to us by Sam Suri French Florist — who just opened their new location in San Francisco this year. We’re thrilled to welcome them as our weekly florist.

When it comes to chin contouring, Dr. Xu prefers fat transfer whenever possible.
Unlike a silicone chin implant — which carries risks of malposition, contracture, and complications over time — fat transfer uses your own tissue for a natural, worry-free result. Once the fat is absorbed by the body, there’s nothing to monitor or maintain.
That said, fat transfer isn’t for everyone. It’s best suited for patients who need subtle augmentation, as it offers a softer, less projected result. For patients with a significantly recessed chin, an implant may be the more appropriate path to achieving their goals.
The right choice always comes down to your anatomy and starting point.

The right approach to chin contouring depends entirely on your starting point.
For patients with a strong chin, submental liposuction alone effectively accentuates the jawline. For those with a naturally recessed or “weak” chin, subtraction alone isn’t enough — addition is needed too. Dr. Xu calls this the addition-subtraction approach: removing unwanted fullness beneath the jaw while augmenting the chin with fat transfer for a balanced, harmonious result.
Fat transfer uses your own tissue, is permanent, and avoids the risks associated with chin implants — making it one of Dr. Xu’s favorite techniques for refining the lower face.
